WSUS Upgrade From SUS

Show Menu

This section describes how to upgrade from SUS to WUS.

Until this section is further developed, here is some basic information regarding upgrading.

WSUS Server is not included as a part of Windows Server 2003 SP1 or R2. However the WUS client is part of Windows Server 2003 SP1 (and R2).

SUS clients need to have the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) upgraded to BITS 2.0 before they can receive updates from a WUS server.

If you install WSUS on a server already running SUS, IIS will use port 8530 for the WSUS server. SUS will continue to run on port 80. SSee whatisws Sus for information on the impact of using alternate ports with WsUS.
