1. Obtain and Install Pre-requsites

1.1 Load IIS loaded
1.1a If IIS 5, load and run IIS Lockdown.

1.2 Load BITS 2.0.

1.3 Load .NET Framework SP1.

1.4 Load Database.

1.4a If using SQL Server, Load SQL Server and apply relevant patches.
1.4b If using MSDE on Windows 2000 - load MSDE.

2. Determine Installation Options

2.1 Determine Instalation Folder (for WSUS Binaries)

2.2 Determine Updates Folder (for storing patches)

2.3 Determine Database folder (for storing WSUS DB)

2.4 Determine Web Site Options (use default site, or a separate site)

3. WWUS Server synchronisation options determined

3.1 Schedule - define when to synchronise this WSUS Server.

3.2 Products and Classifications - define what content to download.

3.3 Proxy Server Settings - define proxy settings and credentials.

3.3 Update Source - specify where this WUS server should get it's updates from.

3.4 Languages - what languages to download updates for.

4. WSUS Server installed

4.1 Run WSUSINSTALL.EXE on server, based on options determined in step 2.

5. Troubleshoot WSUS Server installation

5.1 See WSUS Troubleshooting for details on troubleshooting WUS installation.

6. WSUS Server synchronisation configured and setup

6.1 Got to WSUS Admin site, configure based on options determined in step 3.

6.2 Perform first synchronisation successfully.
