If you are having troubles with targeting updates, check the following:

1. How did you do the Targetting?

Make sure the target group names on the client match target group names on the WSUS server.

2. Are the target groups created?

Make sure you have followed the advice on the Creating Target Groups page to create the groups on both the Server and at the Client.

3. Ensure that the AU updates have been applied applied to the client. One way to do this is to check the registry entries on the client by running the following from command prompt:

Reg query "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" /s

4. Is WUS installed on Default Website??

If your client policies are setup to point to the default web site for updating, check that WSUS is also installed in Default Website. If not, you can change this by running the script %Program Files%\MicrosoftWindowsUpdate\Services\"SetupInstallSelfupdateOnPort80.vbs.
